In 2018, Augmented and Virtual Reality was one of the major themes at EDP Distribuição. Although the technology is relatively recent, an exponential growth in its use in the energy sector is expected.
Aware of the potentiality of this technology, in 2018, EDP Distribuição began the year with an internal analysis of the opportunities for applying augmented and virtual reality technology in its operating activities. Once the activities that could most benefit from this technology were identified, a pilot project was launched at the end of the year on this topic, with the objective of validating the potential of the technology.
In this pilot project, which will take place in 2019, the benefits of using augmented reality in simple tasks, such as remote assistance, or in more complex tasks, such as gathering evidence or supporting maintenance tasks, will be evaluated.
