The high voltage connection is intended for companies typically with installed powers above 10 MVA, powered at the 60 kV voltage level.
The high voltage connection is carried out from the 60 kV grid to your substation under conditions to be defined by EDP Distribuição. There may be two types of connection: direct or antenna connection and ring or pi connection. Connections to an existing extension ("T” connection) are not allowed.
The assessment of an application for a high voltage connection requires the carrying out of grid and feasibility studies setting out the costs associated with the resources involved. Only after payment of these costs shall EDP Distribuição start the process.
In order to formalise the application you must:
● complete the grid connection request form;
● attach ground plans on an appropriate scale of the substation location;
● indicate the geographical coordinates and technical characteristics of the premises.
This information should be sent to EDP Distribuição, through your customer manager or PLRAT@edp.pt.
The next step will be the payment of the technical studies fee of €24 000 (+VAT), whose documentary evidence shall be sent to your customer manager or to the e-mail PLRAT@edp.pt. We will send you the technical conditions and budget within 45 working days after the date of payment of the aforementioned amount (except for situations not attributable to EDP Distribuição, such as delays in opinions requested from external entities).
The construction of the high-voltage grid connection infrastructure is agreed between you and EDP Distribuição, taking into account that the construction of works that take place at EDP Distribution's premises, such as substation panels, cannot be carried out by a third party.
The connection to the grid shall be carried out by means of overhead lines or underground cables, with a high-voltage switching station being required near the substation.
The site intended for the switching station must have direct access from the public street and the use of surface rights will always lie with EDP Distribuição if it is not owned by it.
Auxiliary services of the high voltage switching station for its remote control shall be provided with power from the medium voltage public distribution grid.
The power supply shall start after:
• grid connection implementation;
• settlement of grid connection cost;
• delivery of the work for which the applicant is responsible, where applicable;
• installation of metering equipment;
• authorisation from the land owners crossed by the power line;
• transfer to EDP Distribuição of the plot of land where the switching station is located, where applicable;
• licensing, surveying and authorisation of the coming onstream by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) of:
o the premise of the applicant;
o the grid connection infrastructure.

• inspection of the interconnection protections, if any;
• electricity supply contract with a supplier.
